PITTSBURGH - After taking down conference foes Notre Dame and Syracuse, Pitt volleyball (15-2, 3-1 ACC) will complete a three-game road stretch by travelling to Georgia Tech (9-10, 2-4 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 17 and Clemson (13-5, 2-3 ACC) on Sunday, Oct. 19. ESPN3 will broadcast Friday's 7 p.m. matchup against the Yellow Jackets and Sunday's 1 p.m. tilt against the Tigers. The Pitt-Clemson matchup can also be seen on RSN/ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
After dropping only its second contest of the year, Pitt tallied its 11th sweep in 14 victories with a 3-0 takedown of Notre Dame. The Panthers added their 15th win of the season two days later at Syracuse in their first ACC road game of the season - a mark the team did not reach until Nov. 11 last season. This weekend features less familiar opponents, with the Panthers going a combined 2-2 versus Georgia Tech and Clemson all-time.
In their last meeting on Sept. 29, 2013, Pitt swept Georgia Tech at the Fitzgerald Field House. Now, the Panthers travel to O'Keefe Gym, where the Yellow Jackets are 5-2 this season. The Jackets' only loss in their last five home matches came against No. 5 Florida State on Oct. 3, while Pitt has fallen just once on the road this year. Georgia Tech is led by Teegan Van Gunst in kills (3.59/set) and digs (2.71/set). Rebecca Martin is tops in assists (9.39/set) while Sydney Wilson paces the squad in blocks (1.09/set).
After racing to an 11-1 start this season, Clemson volleyball has won only two of its last six matches. The Tigers dropped their first three ACC matches this season before beating Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech last weekend. Leading the Tigers are Kristin Faust in kills (3.55/set), Kate Federico in aces (22), and Niki Collier in digs (3.25/set). Karis Watson averages 1.46 blocks per set, the team's top mark. Clemson will travel to Notre Dame on Friday before hosting Sunday's match.
Pitt concluded this past weekend with a pair of Panthers atop their respective leaderboards. Amanda Orchard continued her stellar offensive play, currently leading the ACC in hitting percentage (.468) and sitting at No.5 in the nation. Jenna Potts chalked up six blocks between both contests to also pace the conference (1.47/set). As a team, Pitt leads the ACC in opponent hitting percentage (.134) and is second in assists (13.84/set), kills (14.63/set), aces (1.84/set), and digs (15.32/set).
