Pitt Gymnastics Gains Competition Experience in Blue-Gold Exhibition

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team ­got its first feel of competition Saturday afternoon when the Panthers hosted Kent State in their annual Blue-Gold exhibition meet at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Junior Lindsay Offutt and sophomore Tracey Pearson led the way for Pitt. Offutt competed in three events including bars, beam and floor with her top scores being a 9.80 on beam and floor. Pearson was the only Panther who competed in the all-around.
Other top performers for Pitt included junior Maebelle Pacheco who recorded the top score on vault for the Panthers with a 9.80. In addition, freshman Taylor Laymon notched a team-high 9.70 on bars in her first exhibition ever at Pitt while Offutt’s top numbers rounded out the high scores on beam and floor.
The Panthers open the regular season on Jan. 9 when they host Ohio State at 7 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
