Fall Schedule
PITTSBURGH - Highlighting Pitt baseball's 2014 Fall Ball slate this year is an exhibition with Canada's top amateur baseball program and the annual Navy/Vegas World Series, head coach Joe Jordano announced on Wednesday.
The University of Pittsburgh baseball team will ring in the 2014 Fall Ball season on Monday, Sept. 22 with a 12-inning exhibition against the Ontario Blue Jays. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Blue Jays participate in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario, widely regarded as the best league in Ontario and possibly all of Canada. Last year, the Blue Jays placed 29 graduates on collegiate baseball rosters, an all-time high, including eight in the NCAA Division I level.
Beginning on Saturday, Oct. 18 and running through Tuesday, Oct. 21, the baseball team will host its annual Navy/Vegas World Series, marking the end of the fall ball season. Last year, Vegas swept Navy 2-0.
Right in the middle of the fall slate is Pitt's annual Scout Day on Monday, Sept. 29. There is expected to be 20-25 scouts at the event, which allows Panthers players to showcase their skills on the field. Position players will go through fielding drills and batting practice while the pitching staff will throw in front of the scouts.
Every weekend in between, on Thursdays through Saturdays, the team will split and play intrasquad games.
Monday's exhibition against Ontario, along with Scout Day and the entire Navy/Vegas World Series are open to the general public at no cost.
