LA PAZ, Mexico – Pitt baseball freshman Charles LeBlanc is making a name for himself on the international level this week. The rookie out of Laval, Quebec, who begins his collegiate career this spring with the Panthers baseball team, is competing with the Canadian Junior National Team at the 18U Pan American Championship.
LeBlanc, a 2013 33rd-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers, attended prep school last year before joining the Pitt baseball program this year.
“I am very proud of Charles for not only representing his country, but also the University of Pittsburgh on an international stage,” said Panthers head coach Joe Jordano. “He has a very bright future and we are so pleased he is a part of the Pitt family.”
In the tournament opener on Saturday, Sept. 6 against Argentina, LeBlanc powered Canada, going 3-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs in a 12-7 victory.
With the score knotted at one, LeBlanc, the starting shortstop, opened the second inning with his first round-tripper. LeBlanc’s solo shot in the sixth pushed Canada’s lead to 6-3 and came on the heels of a two-run blast that gave Canada the lead for good.
LeBlanc and Team Canada are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 7 against USA at 6 p.m. EST. Viewing options of Canada vs. USA can be found here:
