KENT, Ohio - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-5, 0-3 EAGL) fell to Kent State Friday Evening at the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes outscored the Panthers 195.750-191.175.
"We are hurting and are trying to find a way to dig ourselves out of a hole," said head coach Debbie Yohman.
Pitt started off the evening on bars, notching an overall score of 48.275. Miya Dotson led the Panthers on bars with a 9.775, which put her tied for fourth place overall. She was followed by Lindsay Offutt who picked up a score of 9.675. Tracey Pearson and Tiara Chadran both posted personal bests on the event with a 9.625.
Pitt headed to vault for its second rotation where they posted a 47.850 overall. A 9.825 was the highest score for the Panthers which came from Pearson and was good for second place overall. This was her second season high of the night. Maebelle Pacheco, who rounded out the event, was Pitt's second highest scorer with a 9.800 while Dotson followed behind with a 9.725 to take third overall.
Floor was the Panther's third rotation of the night and their toughest. Pitt finished overall with a 47.175. Offutt and Pearson led the team with a 9.750 and 9.625 respectively. Offutt notched a fourth place finish with her score.
The Panthers finished the evening on beam with a 47.875. Offutt, for her second time during the meet, led Pitt with a 9.850. She placed second overall behind Kent's Rachel Stypinski who scored a 9.900. Pearson (9.675), Reichert (9.650) and Laura Kummerle (9.650) followed behind.
Pearson, the only all-around competitor in the meet finished with a 38.750.
Pitt will continue its season when it comes home to compete against EAGL opponent N.C. State on Feb. 6 for a 7 p.m. match-up at the Fitzgerald Field House. This will also mark the Panthers' "Stick It" to Cancer event in which all fans wearing pink will receive free admission.
