Gymnastics Names 13 Panthers to All-EAGL Scholastic Team

BALTIMORE, Md. - The East Atlantic Gymnastics League announced the All-EAGL Scholastic Team for the 2014 calendar year on March 17, as league members prepare for Championship competition this Sunday at Towson University.
Along with competition, Pitt gymnastics takes pride in its academics. Thirteen Panthers earned spots on the All-EAGL Scholastic Team based on their academic achievements at the University of Pittsburgh.
Senior Bri Hogan (rehab science) will conclude her time as a Pitt gymnast as a four-time member of the scholastic team, the most of any Panther.Laura Kummerle (rehab science and certificate in pathokinesiology), a senior academically who will be graduating a year early, has earned All-EAGL Scholastic honors for all three years that she has been at the University. Other seniors,Haley Bodenheimer (media/professional communications) and Haley Sedgewick (media/professional communications) are making their third appearance in four years.
Lindsay Offutt (political science), who is a junior, has now made the list three years in a row. Additional juniors,Jacqueline Lucci (administration of justice) and sophomore Erika Reichert (business) also made the cut and are being recognized for the second year in a row.
First time honorees include junior transfer Miya Dotson (finance and marketing), sophomore Kelly Burak (psychology), and freshmen Dani Hall (undeclared), Maegan Higdon (undeclared), Taylor Laymon (undeclared), and Julia Schindel (engineering).
68 gymnasts comprise this year's Scholastic Team, with the University of New Hampshire adding a top-total of 15 student-athletes to the list.
In order to be honored as a Scholastic Team member, a gymnast must be active on her school's roster as of January 1st, and must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above forthe 2014 calendar year or a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Freshmen are eligible with Fall 2014 semester grades only.
The Panthers will head to Towson Universitythis weekend to compete at the EAGL Championships, with the meet slated to begin at noon.
