Gymnastics Heads to Towson for EAGL Championship

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team will travel to Towson, Md. on Sunday to compete at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships hosted by Towson University at SECU Arena. The meet is slated to begin at Noon.
The Panthers will compete against all EAGL opponents, which include NC State, North Carolina, George Washington, New Hampshire and host Towson.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Pitt enters this weekend's event after defeating Ball State, but falling to No. 24 Kentucky in a tri meet. The Panthers had an overall score of 194.450 and were led by freshman Taylor Laymon, who finished first on bars and tied a career-high score of 9.875.
PANTHER LEADERS
Pitt will be led by six All-EAGL performers. Lindsay Offutt (beam and floor), Taylor Laymon (bars), and Miya Dotson (bars) were named to the first team. Second Team honorees include Tracey Pearson (vault and all-around), Maebelle Pacheco (vault), Offutt (bars), and Laura Kummerle (beam).
Individually, Offutt notched a first place rank following the conclusion of the regular season on beam with an RQS of 9.850.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington enters the competition following a record-setting win in its final regular season match against Towson. The Colonials set school records for all-around (196.875), floor (49.45) and vault (49.50) exercises.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
New Hampshire is led by sophomore Meghan Pflieger, who was named All-EAGL First Team on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. The Wildcats enters the EAGL Championships following a 196.150-193.775 victory over Centenary.
SCOUTING NC STATE
Led by junior Brittni Watkins, NC State enters Sunday's competition looking to rebound following four straight defeats. Watkins was an All-EAGL First Team performer on vault (9.855 RQS), bars (9.825) and floor (9.865).
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
In its previous two meets North Carolina defeated Pitt 194.700-194.450, but fell to Auburn to finish the regular season by a score of 197.100-194.025. Freshman Morgan Lane headlines the Tar Heels gymnasts as she was named an All-EAGL performer on balance beam, floor exercise and all-around (first team), while earning second team honors on the uneven bars.
SCOUTING TOWSON
Although Towson was defeated by George Washington 196.875-196.525 in its regular season finale, the Tigers overall score set a season-high and tied for the third-highest score in program history. Junior Vicki Vesecky was recently named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Co-Specialist of the Week following her career-high score on bars (9.900) versus George Washington.
EAGL HISTORY
Pitt's highest finish at the EAGL Championships is a second place finish in 2000 when they scored a 195.275. Additionally, the Panther's highest-ever score at the EAGL Championships was a 196.050 in 2004, which placed the Panthers in fourth.
