PITTSBURGH -- Head coach Debbie Yohman will add three additional newcomers to the 2015-16 gymnastics roster. Joining the Panthers from around the world are Lucy Brett, Meagan Oscar and Charli Spivey.
"What a top notch group of student-athletes we are adding to the 2015-16 roster," said head coach Debbie Yohman. "Not only do they have high aspirations for the classroom, but they bring a strong and varied skill level and list of credentials to our squad."
LUCY BRETT
Hailing from the United Kingdom, Brett comes to Pittsburgh with an impressive résumé. She was a member of the Academy of Gymnastics Portishead for 13 years and was on the England Senior Squad from 2013-15. Brett has collected four top-three finishes including a silver at the British Team Championship and bronze at the Leverkusen Cup Team Championship in 2014.
"Lucy will add a cultural dimension that will be fun for us and a skill level that makes her an immediate contributor on three events," said Yohman. "Her bars will be similar to Taylor Laymon's with nice long lines and great combinations. She has difficulty and flexibility on beam and her floor, which is already good, can only improve with the equipment we have in the states. She had her career best British Championship competition this month, which fits in nicely with our other state and regional champions and national qualifiers."
Daughter of Jacqui and Mike Brett, she will enter Pitt with an undeclared major.
MEAGAN OSCAR
A native of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Oscar will be another addition to the 2016 squad. As a member of the Gymnastics Center of Chattanooga, she made it through regionals and state competition in 2013 to work her way to the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament. Oscar was also a regional qualifier in 2014 and 2015. The well-rounded competitor claimed state championships in the all-around and vault in 2015 and beam in 2014.
"Meagan has all-around potential, and will bring strength to our leg events in particular," said Yohman. "She is another state champion and is coming to Pitt for the pre-med program."
Oscar is the daughter of Robin Oscar and Marilyn Bean.
CHARLI SPIVEY
Spivey, the final addition, is a native of Enterprise, Ala., where she was a member of the Alabama Elite Gymnastics Academy. Spivey had a notable 2015 showing as she claimed the state title on beam, was a NIT qualifier, and placed second in the all-around at the Buckeye Classic. During her 2014 campaign, she qualified to JO regionals for the fifth time and was a member of the Alabama Level 10 state championship team.
"Charli fell in love with Pitt, our pre-med programs, and the city," said Yohman. "She is another all-around competitor with strong potential on every event and we were impressed with her competitiveness and progressions this past season.  She is also a state beam champion so we know she competes well under pressure and we feel she has a lot of room to grow."
Daughter of Terry Spivey and Kathy and Ernest Stewart, she plans on majoring in biology/pre-med.
Brett, Oscar and Spivey will join fellow newcomers, Krista Collins, Kensleigh Owens and Brittany West. Collins, Owens and West decided to join the Pitt gymnastics team back in November of 2014.
