PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team had a successful 2014-15 academic year, naming six Panthers to the Scholastic All-America team, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).
The Panthers also landed 14 gymnasts on the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
NACGC/W Scholastic All-America Team
Six Pitt gymnasts were named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans for the 2014-15 academic year, including recently graduated Panthers Bri Hogan, Haley Bodenheimer, Haley Sedgewick, and Laura Kummerle, along with returning senior Lindsay Offutt and sophomore Dani Hall.
“The NACGC/W Academic All-America Award is the highest level of academic recognition we have for our team,” said head gymnastics coach Debbie Yohman. “I am very proud of the six who achieved this standard.”
Gymnasts must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the 2014-15 academic year to receive NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors.
As a team, the Panthers earned a 3.23 grade-point average, led by Hogan, who graduated with a degree in rehab-science and earned Pitt’s top GPA with a 4.0. She was one of 91 student-athletes to reach the perfect standard and a four-time honoree.
An early graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, Kummerle (3.96, rehab-science) finished her degree in only three years and earned All-America honors each year.
Hall (3.77, undecided), Bodenheimer (3.64, media and professional communications), Sedgewick (3.58, media and professional communications) and Offutt (3.55, political science) rounded out the group of Pitt All-Americans.
ACC Academic Honor Roll
Following the University of Pittsburgh’s second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, 246 Pitt student-athletes were named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. The Pitt gymnastics team named 14 to the honor roll for the 2014-15 academic year.
Joining the six All-Americans are Nicole Pearson, Erika Reichert, Julia Schindel, Kelly Burak, Miya Dotson, Maegan Higdon, Taylor Laymon and Jacqueline Lucci.
“Being named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll by this prestigious conference is a great accomplishment as well for our student-athletes,” said Yohman.
The ACC Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who competed in a varsity-level sport and achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.
