PITTSBURGH— University of Pittsburgh gymnastics coach Debbie Yohman announced that seniors Lindsay Offutt and Tiara Chadran will serve as team captains for 2015-16 season. This will be the second consecutive year that Offutt and Chadran have been chosen.
“Lindsay and Tiara are two of the best captains our program has ever had,” said Yohman. “They put a lot of heart into the position as well as time and effort. In the process they have nurtured the leadership roles of others on the team, especially their fellow senior teammates.”
Offutt had a successful 2015 campaign, tying for sixth on beam at the NCAA Regional Meet and winning beam at the EAGL Championship. While competing in the all-around, she placed first overall on beam at EAGLs with a career-high score of 9.950. As a result of her performance in the EAGL Championships, she was named to the All-EAGL Tournament Team on both beam and floor. Academically, Offutt was selected to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team and Scholastic All-America Team.
“Lindsay is a natural leader,” said Yohman. “She has had her goals set since she entered as a freshman and continues to pull everyone along with her. She speaks up with both peers and coaches, but has listening skills as well. She is highly involved with Pitt’s SAAC as well as the ACC, and was a member of the selection committee who chose our new Athletic Director.
Chadran will be entering her second season in competition for the Panthers in 2015-16 as a senior. In her first season back from injury, the Wexford, Pa., native competed on the uneven bars at the EAGL Championships and set a personal record on bars with a score of 9.700 against NC State. Chadran also competed partially on vault. This season she will also compete for a spot in the floor line-up.
“Tiara is the quiet leader, the go to person when someone needs a shoulder,” said Yohman. “She works hard in the gym and leads by example. Tiara never gives up, never complains and always keeps on through highs and lows. She never wavers in her encouragement of others, and is usually the first to volunteer when there is a task looking for someone to take care of it.”
