SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pitt men’s soccer team (4-3-1, 0-3-0 ACC) suffered a 5-0 loss to the Syracuse Orange (5-2-1-, 1-1-1 ACC) on Friday night at SU Soccer Field.
The Panthers started the game on the right foot by holding the Orange scoreless after 36 minutes of action, however Syracuse netted two late goals in the first half that changed the course of the game for Pitt.
“They were better than us,” head coach Joe Luxbacher said. “I thought we played well early on. After they got the first goal it just went downhill. We were trying to use some different guys in different spots because of injuries. We were never in the game.”
Following the first goal in the 36th minute, Ben Polk recorded his first in the 44th minute with 30 seconds on the clock.
The second half saw three Syracuse goals in the 54th, 55th and 57th minutes, two of which came from Polk again.
Although suffering a 5-0 loss, senior captain and goalkeeper Dan Lynd made six saves tonight and became two saves closer to reaching his 200th career save.
The Panthers return to Ambrose Urbanic Field on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for a non-conference 7 p.m. kickoff with the Virginia Military Institute.
