Pitt Cross Country Ready for ACC Championships

WATCH WOMEN'S RACE | WATCH MEN'S RACE

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's cross country teams will head to Cary, N.C., for the 2016 ACC Cross Country Championships to be held at WakeMed Soccer Park Friday morning.

The women's 6K race is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET, while the men's 8K competition is slated for 10:45 a.m. ET.

Both championships will be carried live on ACC Network Extra, available via the WatchESPN app.
A recap of the day's events, including results and times, will be posted to PittsburghPanthers.com.

SCOUTING THE FIELD

The women's race features two ranked teams with NC State leading the way as the nation's No. 3-ranked team. The Wolfpack is followed by Notre Dame at No. 19. Syracuse and Virginia also received votes in the national poll.
On the men's side, defending national champion Syracuse enters Friday's competition as the highest ranked ACC team in the weekly USTFCCCA poll at No. 6 nationally. Virginia is No. 16 and Virginia Tech is No. 26, with Florida State receiving votes.

LAST YEAR AT THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Last season, the Pitt women's team made its best ACC Championship finish in program history, placing ninth at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. Gillian Schriever led the charge in 41st place with a then career-best time 21:26.2 in the 6K race.
The men were led by Chris Montgomery in 71st place at 25:29.0 in the 8K last season. As a team, the Panthers finished 13th, matching their placement from 2014.

LOOKING AHEAD

Both teams put their regional rakings to the test as the Panthers head two hours east to Penn State for NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals Friday, Nov. 11. Earlier this year, Pitt took a preview of the course when it competed at the PSU National Open Friday, Oct. 14, in University Park, Pa.
