CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A dominant offensive showing by the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team led the Panthers to a sweep over Boston College Sunday afternoon at Power Gym in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Pitt [22-8, 13-5 ACC] posted 49 kills in 102 attempts and committed just seven errors to hit .412 on the match. The Panthers put away the Eagles [8-20, 3-15 ACC] in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-16.
"I'm pleased that we get the result we needed," said head coach Dan Fisher. "Today was maybe our best offensive game this year. It's the first time I can remember three pin-hitters hitting .400 since I've been at Pitt. Kamalani [Akeo] did a really nice job as a setter getting everyone involved."
Individually, Pitt had five players register hitting percentages above .350, including redshirt senior middle blocker Jenna Potts (.500), junior outside hitter Mariah Bell (.474), freshmen right-side hitter Nika Markovic (.433) and middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk (.429) and redshirt freshman outside hitter Stephanie Williams (.370).
The Panthers were led by Markovic, who tallied 15 kills, while Williams finished with 13. Aiding the attack was sophomore setter Kamalani Akeo with 36 assists.
Defensively, Pitt posted 40 digs, 11 of which came from redshirt sophomore Angela Seman. At the net, Potts led all blocking with four total.
Seman also controlled the service line, tallying four of the Panthers' eight aces.

Out of the break Boston College posted back-to-back points but the Panthers remained poised and extended its lead to 18-11.
Following the Eagles second break from action, Pitt called a timeout of their own after Boston College returned to the court to score three straight points.
The Eagles continued to work their way back into the set point by point, cutting the Panthers' lead to two, 19-17. The two teams battled in the final points, but Pitt never relinquished its lead.

The Panthers and Boston College opened the set with back-and-forth play before the Eagles took a 5-4 lead, their first of the match. However, Pitt outscored Boston College 6-1 in the next seven points to regain a 10-6 lead and push the Eagles to take a timeout.
The Panthers remained out in front and separated themselves from Boston College. Leading 21-15 heading into the final points of the set, Pitt scored four straight to end the frame and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set Three: Pitt 25, Boston College 16
The Panthers sealed the sweep in the third set with a 25-16 win, highlighted by a 13-point run midway through the frame.

The margin was too much for Boston College to handle as the Eagles were only able to cut Pitt's lead to nine late in the set.
