PITTSBURGH—The Pitt football team broke into the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time this season, placing No. 24 (tied) in the poll released this afternoon.
The Panthers entered the AP Top 25 on the strength of a three-game winning streak, completing the regular season at 8-4.
Pitt owns victories over two teams ranked in the AP’s Top 8: No. 3 Clemson and No. 8 Penn State.
Pitt beat then-No. 2 Clemson on the road (43-42), halting the Tigers’ 21-game home winning streak. The Panthers’ victory at Clemson is arguably the best road win in all of college football this season.
Pitt narrowly lost at No. 11 Oklahoma State (45-38). All four of the Panthers’ losses are to Power 5 foes—and each of those teams have at least eight wins. Three of those losses have been by a combined 11 points.
Coach Pat Narduzzi has led the Panthers to eight regular-season wins for the second consecutive season. It is the first time Pitt has accomplished that feat since 2008-09.
With its regular season complete, the Panthers await their bowl destination, which will be announced on Sunday, December 4.
