Wise, Luther Named First National Bank Athletes of the Week

PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh student-athletes Brenna Wise and Ryan Luther were named First National Bank Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Wise, a sophomore forward, led Pitt women’s basketball (8-3, 0-0 ACC) to a 71-46 rout of UTEP Monday night at the inaugural Patrick Harrington Classic at Raider Arena in Niceville, Fla. The Pittsburgh native recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. It marked the 11th double-double of her career and her second of the Panthers’ last three outings.
Luther, a junior forward, came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field as Pitt men’s basketball (9-2, 0-0 ACC) defeated Rice, 83-73, Saturday at Petersen Events Center. The Gibsonia, Pa., native contributed a game-high seven rebounds and four assists against the Owls, and went 2-of-2 from the foul line.
The women’s basketball team will play its final game of the Patrick Harrington Classic, taking on McNeese State (5-5, 0-0 Southland) Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the radio at 1320-AM WJAS.
Men’s basketball will host Omaha (7-5, 0-0 Summit League) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Petersen Events Center. ACC Network Extra, available on the WatchESPN app, will live steam the game.
