BALTIMORE, Md. – For the fifth consecutive week, Pitt gymnasts continue to rack up weekly conference awards as junior Tracey Pearson was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week and senior Miya Dotson earned Specialist of the Week, as announced by league officials Tuesday afternoon.
The honors come after a meet in which the Panthers outlasted Texas Woman’s University by a score of 194.375-192.550.
Pearson earned honors after placing first on vault (9.875) and in the all-around (39.175). Additionally, Pearson tied for the top spot on floor (9.850) and finished third on beam (9.800) behind two other Pitt gymnasts. Pearson set or tied career highs in all events minus her floor routine.
“Tracey has worked very hard to become a strong all-arounder, and, even more importantly, a consistent all-around competitor,” head coach Debbie Yohman said. “Her vault and floor have always been strong but she has cleaned up her bars and has one of the most dependable routines on our team. She is really maturing as a competitor.”
Dotson pieced together a tremendous meet, winning bars outright while tying Pearson on floor for first place. Dotson’s floor performance (9.850) was one of two career-high scores, her second coming on vault (9.775) where she tied for third.
“Miya, once again, has come through on bars and floor, and she keeps improving her vault,” Yohman said. “We are getting impressive performances from her, but, even better, she is really enjoying herself in meets and it’s showing.”
