#17 Panthers Fall at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 17th-ranked Pitt wrestling team fell to West Virginia 18-12 Sunday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.

The Panthers move to 9-5 on the season, while West Virginia improves to 6-8 overall.

"It was a tough day for us," head coach Jason Peters said. "We have some guys that are wrestling really well, but we still have work to do."

Pitt claimed four matches, including sophomore Dom Forys who put the Panthers on the board with an 11-5 decision over Cory Stainbrook.

Redshirt sophomore Cody Wiercioch also recorded a win this afternoon as he defeated No. 27 Connor Flynn in a 13-6 decision.

Freshman TeShan Campbell followed that by defeating Ross Renzi 3-1, cutting the Mountaineers lead to 12-9 but it wouldn't be enough.

In the final bout of the day, redshirt sophomore Ryan Solomon was the last Panther to record a win as he defeated Anthony Vizcarrondo in a 3-0 decision.

Pitt resumes action at North Carolina Saturday, Feb. 13. ACC action is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
