Pitt Gymnasts Earn All-EAGL and Scholastic Team Honors

BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team had five student-athletes awarded 2016 first and second team All-EAGL awards, while a conference-best 16 were named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team, as announced by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League.
2016 All-EAGL Awards
Five Panthers were named to nine different first and second All-EAGL teams, including seniors Lindsay Offutt and Miya Dotson, juniors Tracey Pearson and Kelly Burak and sophomore Taylor Laymon.
Offutt headlined the list of honorees for Pitt, receiving first-team accolades for her showings on all four events as well as in the all-around. The senior was the only gymnast in the EAGL conference to accomplish this feat.
Pearson also received first-team honors in multiple events, earning the distinction for her performance on both vault and floor. In addition to her first-team recognition, she was named to the second-team in the all-around.
For the second consecutive year, Dotson competed her way to first-team recognition on the bars. Additionally, she received second-team All-EAGL honors for her performance on floor.
The Panthers had two more athletes earn All-EAGL second-team honors in Laymon (bars) and Burak (beam).
First Team All-EAGL on each event and the all-around includes the top eight ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the 10-week regular season based on regional-qualifying score (RQS). Second Team All-EAGL includes gymnasts ranked nine through 16.

Pitt was also recognized for its success in the classroom, landing a conference-best 16 student-athletes on the All-EAGL Scholastic Team.
For the third year in a row, the Panthers will graduate a four-time scholastic team honoree, as Offutt added her final distinction this season.
Senior Jacqueline Lucci and junior Erika Reichert were each named to the team for a third consecutive season.
Senior Tiara Chadran and sophomores Dani Hall, Maegan Higdon and Julia Schindel, along with Laymon, Dotson and Burak are now two-time honorees.
First-time recipients include senior Nicole Pearson and freshmen Lucy Brett, Krista Collins, Charli Spivey, Brittany West and Meagan Oscar.
A total of 73 gymnasts from six schools were honored with N.C. State following Pitt with 15 student-athletes recognized along with 12 from George Washington, 11 from NC State, 10 from Towson and nine from North Carolina.
To be honored as a Scholastic Team member, a gymnast must be active on her school's roster as of January 1st and must have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or above. Freshmen are eligible with fall 2015 semester grades only.
