Giordano Closes Successful NCAA Championship

ATLANTA – Junior Diver Dominic Giordano concluded the 2016 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta this afternoon.
The final event of the competition was the platform, where he placed 17th in the preliminary round, just missing the cut to advance to the final round.
The weekend started with the 1M competition, where Giordano qualified for the finals by posting a score of 367.80 in the preliminary round. In the finals, he posted a score of 367.20, earning eighth place.
On Friday, the Wexford, Pa., native participated on the 3M board, where he qualified fifth with a score of 401.65, earning a spot in the eight-man finals.
In the medal round, Giordano took home NCAA title, bettering his qualifying score by almost 60 points, due in large part to the 96.25 he earned on his fourth dive of the final.
Giordano was the first Pitt swimmer or diver to earn an NCAA individual title and was the first member of the men’s swimming and diving program to receive All-America distinction since 2008. The last Pitt diver to earn All-America honors was Alex Volovetski in 2008 on the 1M board. Jeremy Stultz was the last Pitt diver to receive All-American recognition on the 3M, earning the honor in 2007.
This weekend, Giordano earned a pair of All-American distinctions, and 34th individual NCAA title in Pitt history.
