Giordano Earns NCAA Mark on Platform

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Dominic Giordano concluded the Zone A Diving Championships with flair, earning his second NCAA mark in as many days with a second place finish on the platform.
Giordano posted a combined prelim and final score of 692.85 on the platform to finish as the second-highest qualifier on the board. The mark is Giordano’s second NCAA qualifying score of the week, as he took second on the 1M board yesterday afternoon.
Earning the top score of 390.50 in the qualifying round, Giordano will join Logan Stevens (Virginia Tech), Jayden Pantel (Columbia) and Joseph Kaszubowski (Navy) as the NCAA qualifiers on platform from Zone A.
Competing in the preliminary round on the platform, Tony Galante took 13th with a score of 269.50, just missing the cut for the final round.
Rachel Saunders represented the Panthers on the platform on the women’s side, placing 11th with a score of 392.90.
Giordano’s qualifying mark is the fourth of the event for the Panthers, as Meme Sharp will dive for Pitt at the NCAA Championships on the 1M and 3M boards.
The 2016 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will take place March 17-19 in Atlanta, hosted by Georgia Tech.
