PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh gymnast Lindsay Offutt is set to compete at the 2016 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships on Friday, April 15 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Offutt will compete in the first of two six-team semifinal groups on Friday, with the first beginning at 2 p.m. EST at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena. However, fans will have wait until the sixth and final rotation to watch the Pitt standout perform on floor. The senior will compete alongside Auburn once again, who she became familiar with at Regionals just two weeks ago.
The White Lake, Mich., native qualified for Nationals after tying for first place on floor with a 9.900 at the Ann Arbor Regional on April 2. The event winners at each regional advance to the National Championships (in their specific event) if they were not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
She will be the sixth Panther to reach Nationals and the first since 2007 when Andrea Arlotta qualified in the all-around.
Following the conclusion of the second six-team semifinal which begins at 8 p.m. EST on Friday, the all-around and individual event awards will be presented in one ceremony.
The Offutt Resume
• Offutt shattered Pitt’s 17 year old all-around record (39.400) that stood since 1999 when she scored a career-high 39.575 versus Towson and Penn on February 12.
• She qualified for Nationals after tying for first place on floor with a 9.900 at the Ann Arbor Regional on April 2.
• The senior led the Panthers to their first EAGL Championship title in program history, earning wins on beam (9.950) and in the all-around (39.525).
• Offutt earned EAGL All-Tournament first team honors on all four events and in the all-around.
• She was awarded EAGL Senior Gymnast of the Year and was named to the All-EAGL first team of every event including the all-around. Offutt was the only gymnast in the EAGL to accomplish that feat.
• Offutt posted 24 first-place finishes in 2016 and set new career-high scores or tied her current best on all four events and in the all-around.
