Fosam, Schriever Earn 2016 USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Pitt student-athletes Andin Fosam and Gillian Schriever were named to the 2016 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, Friday.
The honor is the first of both Fosam’s and Schriever’s careers.
“Many times there is a direct correlation between academic and athletic success, and nothing is more indicative of this than the two young ladies that represent Pitt at a high level in the classroom and in competition,” Panthers head coach Alonzo Webb said. “Andin and Gillian earning recognition from the USTFCCCA shouldn’t be a surprise if you know them. They are hardworking, dedicated, focused and competitive. These are the traits that make them great students as well as great athletes. I’m so proud of the example they setting for the University of Pittsburgh and the Pitt track and field and cross country teams.”
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must own a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and meet at least one of the following athletic standards:

For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Fosam completed her sophomore year with a 3.61 GPA in molecular biology major with a chemistry minor. She placed first in the weight throw at the 2016 YSU Invitational with a distance of 17.83 meters. She had the team’s top hammer throw of the outdoor season with a 57.38-meter toss at the Louisville Invitational, and led the Panthers at the ACC Indoor Championships with a 19.19-meter weight throw.
Schriever, a chemical engineering major, ran cross country and competed in distance events while maintaining a 3.889 cumulative GPA. She earned a 4.0 for the 2016 spring semester. The Tuckerton, N.J., native had a standout inaugural season as Pitt’s cross country top performer. She led the team in four of eight meets in 2015, including the ACC Championship Meet and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Schriever helped Pitt place seventh at the Mid-Atlantic Regional – its best finish in program history. Placing 30th overall, she missed All-Region honors by five places. On the indoor track, Schriever won the 5,000-meter run at the 2016 Penn State National meet with a time of 17:01.73.
