GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Pittsburgh’s Nick Wolk was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week, announced Tuesday.
“Nick has competed very well early in the cross country season,” Panthers coach Bryan Jackson said. “It is exciting for him to get this recognition. I know he has big goals for this fall, for this year and for his college career.”
Wolk is the first from Pitt to earn the award, and the honor is the first of his career. He is the first to earn an ACC men’s weekly accolade since Cullen Davis was named Performer of the Week on Sept. 9, 2014.
Wolk had the top finish by any freshman at the Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, Ohio, taking fourth place as Pitt went 4-0 in dual meet competition Friday, Sept. 9. The McMurray, Pa., native was Pitt’s No. 3 finisher, behind a junior and a redshirt senior, posting a 6.4K course time of 20:23.1.
The Pitt men’s cross country team will be in action next at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., Saturday, Sept. 24. The 8K race will start at 1:20 p.m. ET.
