Pitt Sweeps Clemson for Second ACC Victory

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh volleyball team swept conference foe Clemson Sunday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers [11-3, 2-0 ACC] defeated the Tigers [5-9, 0-2 ACC] by set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-9.
Pitt's defense was on point as the Panthers held Clemson to a .087 clip in the match and just 25 kills. Pitt put away 47 kills on 85 total attempts with just nine errors to hit .447 in the match.
Leading the Panthers' offense was junior Kelsey O'Neill who hit a perfect 9-for-9. Freshman Nika Markovic also had a solid match, adding nine kills on 14 attempts to hit .571.
Redshirt Freshman Stephanie Williams led all Pitt players with 10 kills and finished with a double-double after posting 10 digs.
Sophomore Kamalani Akeo finished the match with a team-leading 35 assists. O'Neill was the Panthers best blocker with three total and redshirt sophomore Angela Seman led Pitt in digs with 12.
Set One: Pitt 25, Clemson 19

The Panthers got on track early in the match taking a 10-7 lead and extended that lead to six going up 18-12.
The home team inched closer to the 25 mark thanks to multiple Clemson errors which prompted the Tigers to take its second timeout but it wasn't enough to stifle the Panthers who went on to win 25-19.
Set Two: Pitt 25, Clemson 17
After trailing in the second set 7-4 and calling an early timeout, the Panthers fought their way back to tie the set 10-10.

Pitt picked up its momentum and outscored the Tigers 8-3 to pull ahead but didn't stop there as another four points would prompt a Clemson timeout. Pitt led, 22-15.
The Panthers went on to win the second set 25-17 after outscoring the Tigers 15-7 from the 10-10 mark.
Set Three: Pitt 25, Clemson 9
Pitt dominated Clemson in the third set, holding the Tigers to single digits and a .032 hitting percentage.

After back and forth points to open the set, the Panthers took a 9-4 lead before Clemson called its only timeout of the set.
Out of the break, Pitt didn't miss a beat, outscoring the Tigers 16-5 to end the match.
