Pitt to Visit Akron for Tommy Evans Invitational

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Akron, Ohio, for the 48th annual Tommy Evans Invitational Friday, Sept. 9, at Silver Creek Metro Park.
The women’s 5K race will start at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men’s four-mile race at 6:15 p.m. ET. A recap of the day’s races, including results and times, will be posted to PittsburghPanthers.com.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- The Panthers will run alongside five other teams, including host Akron, Kent State, Malone and Youngstown State.
- Due to NCAA rules governing scoring between Division I and non-Division I teams, the event will be scored as dual meets, with the best head-to-head records determining the results.
LAST TIME OUT – DUQUESNE DUALS (SEPT. 3)
- Competing at his first collegiate event, freshman Nick Wolk led the Panthers with a third-place finish in the men's 8K race at 26:23.4. Fellow rookies Jackson Morton and Drew Glick also placed in the top 10, finishing seventh (23:36.6) and 10th (26:50.6), respectively.
- Junior Madison Brannon was Pitt's top finisher on the women's side, placing eighth with a personal record of 19:06.4 in the 5K. Seven other student-athletes posted PRs, including Rebecca Peters (19:12.8), Sarah Kochinsky (19:16.6), Erin Keelan (19:46.0), Stephanie Lednak (20.07.0), Rachel Mueller (20:14.8), Emily Phillips (20:22.8) and Rachele Cerrone (20:55.3).
LOOKING AHEAD
- The women’s team will travel 40 miles east to Latrobe, Pa., for the St. Vincent Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17. The 6K race is set to start at 10:45 a.m. ET.
- The men and women will both be in action at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., Saturday, Sept. 24. The men’s 8K will start at 1:20 p.m. ET and the women’s 6K will start at 2:35 p.m. ET.
