BLACKSBURG, Va. - The 23^rd-ranked Pitt wrestling team fell 38-9 to No 5 Virginia Tech Friday night in its ACC opener at Cassell Coliseum.

The Panthers move to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the ACC while the Hokies improve to 12-1 overall and 2-0 against conference foes.

Sophomores Robert Lee and TeShan Campbell were the lone Panthers to earn victories over their Hokie opponents.

"I was happy with the way we went out and battled with one of the top teams in the country on the road," said acting co-head coach Drew Headlee. "We were able to take two bouts from them, but now we have a quick turnaround and need to be ready for VMI tomorrow."

Lee battled his way to a 14-1 major decision over Virginia Tech's Brendan Ryan at 141 pounds. Lee struck first with a takedown and rode out Ryan for the remainder of the period. Entering the second and starting on bottom, Lee took a 4-0 lead after a reversal. Soon after, Ryan was hit with his second stall warning of the bout to give Lee a 5-0 lead and he closed out the second period by picking up four near fall points. Starting the third in neutral, Lee took down Ryan but he quickly escaped bringing the score to 7-1. However, Lee took down Ryan once more and added on a point with riding time picking up a 14-1 major decision.

Ranked No. 12 at 165 pounds by InterMat this week, Campbell earned his seventh win by technical fall on the season as he downed David Bergida, 17-1, in 4:30. He opened the bout scoring six points off a takedown and back-to-back two point nearfalls and added on another takedown to close out the opening frame. Campbell went to work again in the second, picking up eight more points and added one more with riding time en route to the technical fall.

The Panthers make the short trip to Lexington, Va., to take on VMI Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 2 p.m. dual with the Keydets.
