PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving teams used dominating swimming performances to defeat Miami, Michigan State and James Madison in a quad meet on Friday evening at Trees Pool.
The Pitt men's team cruised to a 185-105 victory over Michigan State, while the Pitt women's squad secured wins over Miami (179-121), Michigan State (210-90) and James Madison (223-77).
The Pitt men (2-2, 0-2 ACC) posted 12 total victories from nine individual swimmers and one relay squad in their meet against the Spartans, while the Panthers' women's team (4-2, 1-2 ACC) used nine event wins from seven athletes and two relay units to cruise to the top spot in the four-team showcase.
The Panthers were led by freshman Armin Remenyi and senior Boris Kulizhnikov, who each won events for the men, and senior women's All-America candidates Lina Rathsack and Amanda Richey, who were among the event winners on the women's side.

"It was good to see our kids compete and win a lot of races tonight," Pitt head coach John Hargis said. "Many of our athletes were swimming in certain events for the first time this season, and I thought they adapted very well. Also, we were collectively proud to use this meet to spread awareness for a great cause."
Friday evening marked Pitt swimming & diving's Pink the Pool meet and Panthers Unite event as the team wore pink to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month while numerous Pitt student-athletes cheered the Panthers on from the Trees Pool bleachers.
In diving, Joe Ference and Meme Sharp once again led the way for the Panthers. Ference placed second on 1-meter with 316.9 points and third on 3-meter with 241.9 points. Sharp especially impressed on 3-meter, placing second with 324.7 points; she also took fifth on the 1-meter springboard with 234.85.
"We took a step in the right direction tonight," Pitt diving coach Katie Hazelton said. "There was some great execution of difficult dives. But I also like the way we responded to adversity. When there was a dive that didn't go how we hoped, we were able to react positively and make the next dive successful, which was tremendous to see."
The Panthers return to action next weekend with a two-day meet at Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. Along with the Scarlet Knights of the Big Ten, Pitt will be competing against a trio of Big East schools: Seton Hall, Georgetown and Villanova.
