Senior Posts Second Win of Cross Country Career

PITTSBURGH – In her final race at Schenley Park, Pitt women's cross country senior Melanie Vlasic picked up the win in the 5K at the CMU Invitational Saturday morning.

The Hatfield, Pa., native led the way with a time of 18:26.2, marking the second win of her college cross country career and her first since the UB Stampede Invitational on Sept. 12, 2015.

As a team, the Panthers placed second with 60 points, behind Duquesne's 31 points.

Three other Panthers placed in the top 20, including seniors Amy Kelly (fifth, 18:47.5) and Rebecca Peters (11th, 19:12.0), as well as freshman Mikaela Vlasic (17th, 19:34.2).

Senior Caroline DeFrank also competed in her final Schenley Park race and finished 32nd at 20:08.1.

UP NEXT

Both the men's and women's cross country squads will compete at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville Saturday, Oct. 14.
