Live Results: Pitt at Rutgers Penta
PITTSBURGH—After two successful home meets, the Pitt swimming & diving teams will be in action for the third consecutive weekend when the Panthers travel to Rutgers for a two-day, five-team meet.
Waiting for Pitt in Piscataway, N.J., will be the Scarlet Knights along with a trio of Big East foes in Villanova, Georgetown and Seton Hall. The penta-meet begins on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Rutgers Aquatics Center before concluding on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Panthers are coming off dominating wins last weekend, when the Pitt women (4-2, 1-2 ACC) cruised to victories over Miami, Michigan State and James Madison while the men (2-2, 0-2 ACC) comfortably beat Michigan State.
Those victories, along with more impressive individual performances, helped Pitt again appear in the CollegeSwimming.com team rankings. The men appeared in the Top 25 for the second straight week, with a ranking of No. 22, while the women weren't far behind at No. 34.
Leading the Pitt men's swimming team are senior Boris Kulizhnikov, juniors Brian Lovasik and Aaron Sett and a host of talented underclassmen who are posting times that rank among the nation's best, including Samy Helmbacher, Armin Remenyi and more.
The Pitt women's swimming squad features the ever-reliable senior duo of Lina Rathsack and Amanda Richey. They are complimented by a host of freshmen and sophomores led by Valerie Daigneault, Shan Hochkeppel, Sam Howe and several others, giving the Panthers a plethora of options in many races.
In diving, women's senior Meme Sharp and men's sophomore Joe Ference are Pitt's biggest threats to claim maximum team points for the Panthers. Furthermore, sophomores Krista Jones and Cortnee Williams have started strong for the women, while freshman Noah Marble has been impressive earlier in his collegiate career for the men.
