Panthers Set for USA Swimming Winter Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Select members of the Pitt swimming team will compete at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships over the next few days at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Following Wednesday's relay action, six Panthers will begin competing in individual racing, with preliminary heats starting at 9 a.m. before finals commence at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Here are the Panthers scheduled to race over the next three days in Columbus:
Valerie Daigneault (200 IM, 100 Back, 200 Back)
Shahar Menahem (100 Back, 200 Back)
Brian Ramsey (100 Breast, 200 Breast)
Lina Rathsack (100 Free, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 100 Breast, 200 Breast)
Ryan Schonbachler (500 Free, 1650 Free)
Luke Smutny (200 Free, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly)
On Thursday, Ryan Schonbachler and Luke Smutny will get things started for the Panthers in the men's 500-yard freestyle before Valerie Daigneault and Lina Rathsack compete in the 200-yard IM.
Friday will see Rathsack and Smutny open up in the 100-yard fly races, while Smutny will have a quick turnaround before racing in the 200-yard free. Following that, Rathsack and Brian Ramsey are slated to enter the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary heats before Daigneault and Shahar Menahem compete in the 100-yard backstroke.
On the final day of the USA Swimming Winter Nationals, Schonbachler will swim the freestyle mile of 1,650 yards against some of the nation's top competition ahead of Daigneault and Menahem returning for the 200-yard backstroke. After that, Rathsack will enter the 100-yard free and the 200-yard breast, with Ramsey also swimming in the latter of those two events. Smutny will conclude Pitt's participation in the meet by racing in the 200-yard butterfly.
