COLUMBUS, Ohio—Senior Lina Rathsack placed fourth in the women's 200-yard breaststroke—her third top-10 finish of the weekend—as a select group of Pitt swimmers completed action at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Adding to her seventh-place finish in the 200-yard IM and ninth-place effort in the 100-yard breast earlier in this weekend's meet in Columbus, Rathsack saved her best for Saturday. She took fourth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.11—just .05 seconds off her own Pitt record in the event—after qualifying third with a time of 2:10.31.
Three other Panthers advanced to finals at USA Swimming Winter Nationals on Saturday. Sophomore Luke Smutny advanced to the B Final in the men's 200-yard fly and finished 11th with an impressive mark of 1:46.42, and freshman Shahar Menahem took 18th in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a C Final time of 1:58.06. Sophomore Valerie Daigneault also placed 24th in the 200 back.
Also competing for the Panthers on Saturday, freshman Ryan Schonbachler took 20th in the 1,650-yard freestyle mile with a strong time of 15:53.21 and sophomore Brian Ramsey placed 27th in the men's 200-yard breast with a mark of 2:03.34.
Closing out the rest of the year for Pitt swimming & diving, senior Meme Sharp is expected to compete at the USA Diving Winter Nationals, which will be held in Greensboro, N.C., from Dec. 13 to Dec. 19. The Panthers will also host the Pitt Christmas Meet at Trees Pool from Dec. 14 to Dec. 17.
