Panthers Predicted to Finish Fourth in EAGL Preseason Poll

Snider Set for First Season as Head Coach
BALTIMORE – Under the new direction of first-year head coach Samantha Snider, the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team is projected to finish the 2018 season fourth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), as announced by league officials Wednesday morning.
In the Preseason Coaches' Poll, reigning EAGL Champion George Washington (34 points) led the way as the Colonials tallied four first place votes. New Hampshire followed with 29 points and one first place vote, while NC State sits third with 23 points.
The Panthers fell in at No. 4 with 18 points and one first place vote, while NC State (15) and Towson (7) rounded out the projections, respectively.
The Panthers are set to return a core group of veterans, including seniors Taylor Laymon and Dani Hall, and multiple juniors, but will see action from all four of its newcomers as well.
Senior transfer Catie Conrad, who came to Pitt for her final season of eligibility, will play a large role on the team, while freshmen Sophie Bochenek, Haley Brechwald and Jordan Ceccarini are also expected to make an immediate impact.
The 2018 season begins Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers will host Oregon State, who was ranked 12th in the nation by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Preseason Poll. The Beavers finished 11th overall at the NCAA Championships in 2017.
