No. 25 Pitt Falls Short to No. 8 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 25th-ranked Pitt wrestling team dropped a hard-fought battle to No. 8 NC State Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The Panthers earned four victories on the night including two with bonus points.
With the loss, Pitt moves to 8-5 overall and 0-3 against conference opponents, while NC State improves to 11-1 overall and 4-0 against ACC opponents this season.
"The team wrestled with a lot of emotion tonight," co-head coach Matt Kocher said. "We believed we could win and when you believe you can win, you care deeply. Everyone was deeply engaged in all the matches – it was awesome to see. Every match, point and takedown counted tonight and that was fun to be a part of. We're continuing to improve and get better. Over this next month and a half, we're going to keep climbing and working with our eyes set on ACC's and NCAA's championships."
Starting at 285 pounds in the ACC dual, redshirt junior Ryan Solomon got things going for Pitt as he won in overtime over No. 21 Mike Kosoy. Solomon picked up three teams points in a TB-2, 5-2, victory.
NC State came back at 125 pounds to tie the dual, 3-3, after sophomore LJ Bentley dropped a 10-5 decision to Sean Fausz.
Moving to 133 pounds, junior Dom Forys picked up his 11th win of the season after a 15-4 major decision over Jamal Morris, giving Pitt a 7-3 advance in the dual. Forys recorded four takedowns in the third period to earn his third career win over Morris. In their last meeting a year ago, Forys pinned Morris in 5:38 at the NCAA Championships.
NC State's Kevin Jack tied the team score yet again after picking up a 19-6 major decision over redshirt junior Nick Zanetta.
At 149 pounds, senior Mikey Racciato gave the Panthers a six-point boost as he pinned Beau Donahue in 6:38. Racciato was leading the match 8-5 before securing the fall.
After the intermission, the Wolfpack started to make their comeback with a sudden victory win at 157 pounds. Redshirt freshman Taleb Rahmani and Thomas Bullard were tied 7-7 at the conclusion of regulation, but Bullard would score a takedown early on in overtime to secure the win, bringing the team score to 12-10 in favor of Pitt.
The Panthers would earn their final win of the night at 165 pounds as sophomore TeShan Campbell won his 15th match of the season over Brian Harmann in a 5-1 decision. Campbell recorded a takedown and reversal and added on a riding time point en route to the decision, giving Pitt a 15-10 lead.
NC State went on to claim the final three bouts, including two with bonus points.
The Panthers return to Pittsburgh Friday, Feb. 10 to host Iowa State before its final road dual of the season at Virginia, Sunday, Feb. 12.
