Conrad, Herbine Earn Individual Titles at MSU Quad Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior Catie Conrad and sophomore Deven Herbine earned individual titles on beam and vault, respectively, as the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team finished with a 193.125 at a quad meet Saturday evening that featured Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and Rutgers.
The Spartans, who were home team, won the meet with a 195.525. The Eagles finished as the runner-up, posting a 194.950, while Rutgers followed with a 194.225. The Panthers finished fourth.
"We didn't have our best meet, but tonight was a great experience for our girls," said head coach Samantha Snider. "It was our first road meet of the season and to compete in this type of atmosphere, in front of this many people was great. There is a lot we can improve to prepare for the rest of the season, but are excited to be back in front of our home crowd next Saturday."
Pitt tallied its highest event score of the night during its final rotation, marking a 48.750 on bars. Floor was the second-highest with a48.650, while the Panthers posted a 48.575 on vault and a 47.150 on beam.
Conrad and Herbine highlighted the Panthers evening with first-place finishes. Conrad earned a 9.850 on beam to tie for the top mark, while Herbine finished in a five-way tie on vault with a 9.825.
BEAM
Pitt opened the evening on beam, posting a 47.150. Conrad led the lineup with a 9.850, good for a first-place finish, while Herbine followed after scoring a career-high 9.725. Junior Lucy Brett rounded out the top scores, recording a 9.700.
Following the first rotation, the Panthers sat in fourth, behind Eastern Michigan, Michigan State and Rutgers, respectively.
FLOOR
Led by freshman Haley Brechwald, Pitt posted a 48.650 on floor. The two-time EAGL Rookie of the Week scored a 9.825 on the event. Conrad and freshman Sophie Bochenek, who competed for the first time this season on floor, both tallied marks of 9.750. Sophomore Alecia Petrikis hit for a 9.725.
The Panthers remained in fourth place at the conclusion of the second rotation as Michigan State pulled out in front. Eastern Michigan followed in second place, while Rutgers sat in third.
VAULT
Pitt's third rotation of the meet was vault. The Panthers tallied a 48.575, led by Herbine's 9.825, which tied a career-high for the sophomore. Petrikis and Brechwald hit for a 9.725 to follow.
Michigan State remained in first place with a 146.175 after three rotations as Pitt held steady in fourth.
BARS
The Panthers posted its highest event score of the night in their last rotation, a 48.750 on bars. Sophomore Megan Tripp scored a career-high 9.825 to lead Pitt and finish tied for third on the event, while Brett finished with a 9.800. Sophomore Lucy Jones counted a 9.750 on the event, while Brechwald rounded out the top scores with a 9.700.
Michigan State held onto its lead to win the meet, while EMU finished second, Rutgers third and Pitt fourth.
