Panthers Record Second-Highest Road Score at UNC

Pitt Tallies a 196.050 Against the Tar Heels
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team recorded the second-highest road score in program history after tallying a 196.050 Saturday afternoon at North Carolina's Carmichael Arena in Chapel, Hill, N.C.
Falling just short of the top road score (196.100) which was set earlier this season at TWU, Pitt dropped the meet to the Tar Heels 196.600-196.050, but saw 10 top-five finishes by eight Panthers.
On vault, junior Kensleigh Owens and freshman Haley Brechwald tied for third with a 9.850, while sophomores Alecia Petrikis and Deven Herbine each recorded a 9.825 to finish tied for fifth.
Seniors Catie Conrad and Taylor Laymon tied for third on bars with a 9.850. Junior Lucy Brett followed with a fifth place finish on bars after scoring a 9.825, while earning her second top-five finish on beam coming in third with a 9.875. Sophomore Megan Tripp tied for fourth on beam with a career-high 9.850.
Brechwald finished her day with a third place finish on floor, recording a 9.875, en route to a second-place finish in the all-around with a 39.300.
BARS
The Panthers started the day on bars, where they posted a 49.000. Conrad and Laymon led the group, each recording a 9.850, while Brett followed with a 9.825. Brechwald was next with a 9.750, while Tripp rounded out the scores with a 9.725.
UNC led Pitt after the first rotation, earning a 49.175 on vault.
VAULT
Pitt moved to vault in the second rotation, where Owens and Brechwald led the squad with a 9.850. Following those two were both Petrikis and Herbine, who finished the event with a 9.825. Rounding out the vault lineup was freshman Sophie Bochenek with a 9.750 and junior Charli Spivey with a 9.725.
Despite recording the fifth-best score in program history on vault with a 49.100, the Tar Heels remained in front after the second rotation with a 98.350 after tallying a 49.175 on bars.
FLOOR
Next up for the Panthers was floor, where Brechwald led the team with a 9.875. Following Brechwald was freshman Jordan Ceccarini with a season-best 9.850. Petrikis posted a 9.825 in the event, followed by Conrad with a 9.800 and Spivey with a 9.775. Owens closed out the event with a 9.750.
Pitt took a slight lead heading into the final rotation, 147.225-147.125. The Tar Heels recorded a 48.775 on beam, while Pitt tallied a 49.125 on floor.
BEAM
Pitt closed the meet on beam, where Brett led the squad with a season-high 9.875. Tripp posted a career-high 9.850 in the event, while Brechwald followed with a 9.825. Herbine rounded out the top scores with a 9.725.
The Tar Heels closed the meet with a top score of 196.600, after finishing with a 49.475 on floor.
