Stout Advances to Quarterfinals, Five Panthers in Friday's Competition

PHILADELPHIA – Mac Stout advanced to the quarterfinals and four more Panthers advanced to Friday's competition at the 2025 NCAA Championships at Wells Fargo Center.
Stout won both matches on the day, opening with a 12-0 major decision over Michael Dellagatta of Cornell and won on a 4-2 decision over brother, Luke Stout, of Princeton in the second round.
The Stout's became the first set of brothers to meet in the history of the Division I tournament. Mac and Luke were scoreless through the opening period before Mac got on the board with an escape to go up 1-0. Mac followed up with a takedown to go up 4-0 before Luke worked his way back defensively with two escapes to make the final score 4-2.
The Panthers got to a slow start in the morning, beginning the day with five straight losses, before bouncing back in the upper weight classes and the consolation rounds. Pitt ended the morning session with wins from Reece Heller (184), Stout (197), and Dayton Pitzer (285) to have three Panthers advance in the championship bracket.
Heller dropped to the consolation bracket after falling to the No. 8 overall seed Jaxon Smith over Maryland in the second round. Pitzer fell to ACC foe Isaac Trumble in the second round on a 5-2 decision to end the night.
Luca Augustine bounced back after a loss in the opening round with an 11-2 major decision in the consolation round. Dylan Evans also advanced to the second round of the consolation bracket with a 4-1 win in sudden victory over North Carolina's Sonny Santiago. Briar Priest picked up his first NCAA win in the consolation prelims with a 5-0 decision over Lorenzo Frezza.
The 2025 NCAA Championships resume Friday morning with the quarterfinal and consolation rounds. Session three begins at noon on ESPNU with full coverage of each mat on ESPN+. Semifinal and Blood Round bouts will air at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
