PITTSBURGH – Wrestler Mac Stout and swimmer Sophie Yendell – two of Pitt's newly minted All-Americans – have been named PNC Achievers of the Week for their outstanding performances on the national stage.
Redshirt sophomore Mac Stout finished in seventh place at 197 pounds to earn All-America honors at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia. Stout recorded a 4-2 record in the tournament, including a 4-2 victory over Wyatt Voelker of Northern Iowa to become the 85th All-American in program history Friday night. The Mt. Lebanon product secured seventh place Saturday afternoon with a 12-3 major decision over Camden McDanel of Nebraska. Stout finishes the season with a 27-4 record, including 16 bonus-point victories.
Fifth-year senior Sophie Yendell earned All-America honors in the 50 free and honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 fly at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships last week. Yendell placed fifth in the final of the 50 free, becoming Pitt's highest-ever NCAA finisher in women's swimming. She swam a 21.66 (11.27 split) to earn All-America status for the first time in her prestigious career. Yendell is Pitt's first female All-American swimmer since 1986 (Susan Hickman – 50 free). She holds the 50 free school record with a time of 21.30, set at the ACC Championships a month ago, which at the time was the 17th-fastest performance in history. Yendell also set the school record in the 100 fly (50.83) to earn honorable mention All-America honors.
