
Pitt Falls in Morgantown

Morgantown, WV – Pitt (16-12, 3-6) fell to West Virginia in Morgantown on Wednesday night, 11-1 in eight innings.
Caden Dulin had his ninth multiple-hit game of the season on Wednesday, going 2-4. In his first career start, Julian Irizarry lined a single to left in the sixth inning. He's now recorded a hit in each of the last two games. Luke Cantwell drew his 30th walk of the season and had an RBI hit-by-pitch.
Matt Porter and Sam Bryan each threw 1.2 scoreless, hitless, innings on the mound in relief for the Panthers. Porter and Bryan each struck out one and did not allow a single hit.
The Panthers got base runners on in the early innings, loading the bases in three of the first four innings on Wednesday night.
Caden Dulin led off the top of the second inning with an infield single which was followed by a Sebastian Pisacreta walk. Logan Duffy laid down a sacrifice bunt and moved both runners into scoring position. Making the first start of his career, Julian Irizarry work a four-pitch walk to load the bases with one out. Jake Kendro drove a line drive up the middle that was snagged by the second baseman who then doubled off Pisacreta at second to end the inning.
West Virginia scored five runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning and led 5-0 after two.
In the third, Cantwell and Melendez walked while Nessler was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out. Zuckerman struck out and Dulin grounded into a double play to end the inning and the threat.
Pitt got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. After Pisacreta and Duffy walked, Kendro laid down a bunt single to load the bases for the third time in four innings. Cantwell drew a hit-by-pitch that scored Pisacreta from third and made it a 5-1 ballgame.
The Mountaineers added three runs in the bottom half of the inning and led 8-1 after four. They added three more runs over the next four innings as Pitt fell in Morgantown, 11-1.
