PITTSBURGH – Je'Nyia Burton of the track and field team and softball's Kylie Griggs have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Burton, the defending ACC indoor champion in the 400-meter dash, competed in her first 400-meter race of the outdoor season at the Virginia Challenge. The senior from Orlando, Florida, won the event with a time of 52.83 seconds, making her the only athlete in the 74-person field to finish under 53 seconds. In her outdoor debut at the distance for Pitt, Burton entered the program's all-time top 10 list, ranking fourth with several meets remaining.
Griggs helped lead the Panthers to a 3-1 week, including a series win over No. 11 Virginia Tech. The senior center fielder batted .667 (6-for-9) in the series with two doubles and three walks. She has reached base safely in 14 consecutive games and recorded at least one hit in 12 of those. Over that stretch, the Perrysburg, Ohio, native is batting .489 (22-for-45) with eight doubles and four home runs. Her 14 doubles on the season are tied for the seventh-most in a single season in program history.
