Zuckerman Has Three-Hit Day in Rubber Match Loss to Miami

PITTSBURGH - Pitt (17-14, 4-8) fell to Miami in their rubber match on Sunday afternoon, 14-4.

Ryan Zuckerman had his third three-hit game of the season, going 3-3 with an RBI and a walk in the series finale. Caden Dulin had another multiple-hit game on Sunday as he went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Luke Cantwell (1-4, 2B, R), AJ Nessler (1-3, RBI) and Jackson Cooke (1-3, 2B, RBI) all had hits this afternoon as well.

Freshmen pitchers Antonio Doganiero and Antonio Socarras each threw scoreless innings in relief on Sunday. Doganiero allowed just one hit and struck out one while Socarras had the second hitless and scoreless outing of his career.

For the third time this series, the Panthers scored first. AJ Nessler got Pitt on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single through the right side that drove in Caden Dulin.

The Hurricanes responded with a run top of the second inning to knot the game at one. They would go on to score in each of the next four innings as they totaled 14 runs in the series finale.

The Panthers scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. After Julian Irizarry reached on an error, Luke Cantwell doubled down the right field line that put two runners in scoring position. Caden Dulin drove in Irizarry on a single through the left side for Pitt's second run of the game. With two outs, AJ Nessler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jackson Cooke worked an RBI walk that brough home another run. Ryan Zuckerman drove in Dulin and collected his third hit of the day on an RBI infield single. The Panthers fell 14-4 in seven innings.

Pitt travels to Eastwood Field to play Youngstown State this Tuesday, April 8, at 5 PM. The Panthers run-ruled the Penguins, 17-7 in eight innings, in their meeting earlier this season. In Pitt's most recent trip to Eastwood Field, the Panthers scored 23 runs in just seven innings. At the time, it was their most runs in a game since 2019.
