Panthers in the Pros Update: Pitt Has 15 Panthers in MLB Organizations

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt baseball program currently has 15 Panthers playing across 12 Major League Baseball organizations.

Less than two years after being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 12^th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Logan Evans (2022-23) made his MLB debut earlier this year. Evans earned his first career win in his first career start on April 27^th against the Miami Marlins. He allowed just two runs on two hits over five innings. In his first seven starts, the right hander is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 40 innings.

Isaac Mattson (2015-17) was called up again by the Pittsburgh Pirates this season after his time with his childhood team last September. Mattson recently picked up his first MLB win in a critical spot during last Saturday's game vs. the Phillies. In a tie game, the Erie, PA native inherited a baserunner on third and a 2-0 count with Nick Castellanos at the plate. Mattson struck out Castellanos looking and induced two fly outs to escape the jam. He was in line for the win after the Pirates took the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Mattson has allowed just one hit and one run over his five appearances for the Pirates this season.

Only two organizations in Major League Baseball have multiple Panthers in their pipeline in the New York Yankees (2) and the Tampa Bay Rays (3). Tampa's 2024 7^th round draft pick, Ryan Andrade (2024), is pitching in Single-A for the Charleston RiverDogs while RHP Dan Hammer (2017-19) and catcher Tatem Levins (2022) are now battery mates in Double-A with the Montgomery Biscuits.

The Yankees have a pair of right-handed pitchers in Baron Stuart (2022) and Jack Sokol (2023-24) throwing for them. Both Stuart and Sokol were undrafted signees by New York. Stuart was promoted to the Somerset Patriots in Double-A earlier this season. Sokol, who signed with the Yankees last July, is in Single-A with the Tampa Tarpons.
