
Panthers Compete at USA Swimming National Championships, Jansen Qualifies for Three Finals

PITTSBURGH - Five Panther women competed at the USA Swimming National Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium last week.
Claire Jansen shined in Indiana as she qualified for finals in each of the three competitions she swam in (50 Back, 100 Back, 200 Back). Jansen started off the week with a personal-best 2:11.78 in the 200 back to advance to the B Final where she placed 14th. She dropped over three seconds off of her time from the USA Olympic Team Trials a year ago.
Jansen swam another personal best in the 50 Back where she qualified for another B Final with her 28.44. Her time of 28.29 in the finals was the 14th-fastest time in the country and had her tied for 44th in the entire world in the 50 Back. The Naperville, IL native qualified for a final for the third and final time of the week in the 100 back, swimming a personal-best 1:01.48 in the prelims to do so. Jansen capped off her week with a 20th place finish in the 100 back.
Sydney Gring was the other Panther to qualify for finals at the USA Swimming National Championships. Gring set personal bests in both prelims and finals of the women's 50 Fly. After qualifying for finals with a 27.37, she swam a 27.32 to place 19th in the 50 Fly. Gring finished 27th in both the 100 Fly (1:00.44) and 200 IM (2:18.33). The Reading, PA native swam personal bests in the 50 Back (29.86) and 100 Back (1:03.25).
On the heels of an impressive freshman campaign, Kimmy Shannon swam a personal-best 4:52.29 in the 400 IM and placed 27th.
Mary Clarke placed 35th in the 100 Back (1:02.62) and 36th in the 50 Back (29.43). Her 29.43 was a personal best.
Avery Kudlac swam personal bests in the 100 Free (56.33) and 200 Free (2:03.62) while placing 45th and 46thin those events respectfully.
