Black Student-Athlete Summit
Last month, Pitt Athletics was proudly represented at the 2025 Black Student-Athlete Summit held in Chicago, Illinois. Accompanied by Pitt Life Skills staff member Michaela Burton, Assistant Director of Mentorship, three Pitt student-athletes participated in the prestigious national gathering that celebrates, empowers and advocates for the Black student-athlete community.
The summit featured keynote addresses, panel discussions and workshops focused on leadership development, social justice and professional growth within collegiate athletics. The Panther delegation returned inspired and equipped with new tools and connections to foster positive change, both on campus and beyond.
"It was amazing to be part of such an impactful event that uplifts Black student-athletes and their voices," said Burton. "Our student-athletes demonstrated exceptional leadership and engagement throughout the summit, embodying the values of Pitt Athletics."

Athlete Activism Summit
In June, Pitt Life Skills staff member Therese Pitman, Director of Student-Athlete Development, had the privilege of attending the 2025 Athlete Activism Summit in Portland, Oregon.
"It was incredibly powerful to be in rooms filled with courageous and passionate members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are leading the charge for equity and inclusion in athletics," said Pitman following the event.
Attendees at the summit showed strength with sharing stories, collective action and unapologetic authenticity.
"I left feeling deeply moved and more committed than ever to creating spaces where all athletes feel seen, valued and empowered," Pitman concluded.
