PITTSBURGH – Men's swimmers Max Matteazzi and Patrizio Costanza will compete in their home country of Italy at Sette Colli this week in Rome.
With great swims, Matteazzi and Costanza can qualify for a spot at the World Championships in Singapore next month.
The Trofeo Settecolli IP - Internazionali di Nuoto, or Sette Colli, is "one of the longest-running and most prestigious meets on the international scene". This year's meet marks the 61st edition of Sette Colli and will be hosted at Foro Italico in Rome, Italy from June 26 – 28.
Last year, at the 60th edition, Matteazzi clocked in a top 40 time in the world in the 200 IM. The Forever Panther will look to do the same this week and earn a spot in the World Championships.
Matteazzi currently holds four school records in the 500 Free, 200 IM, 400 IM and the 800 Free Relay. He set five school records at the ACC Championships in February. After qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second time in his two years at Pitt, Matteazzi set the final school record of his career in the 200 IM. He swam a 1:42.87 and earned the highest NCAA finish of his career.
Patrizio joined Pitt as a midseason transfer in January and swam in four meets for the Panthers as a freshman. The best finish of his first year at Pitt came in the Ohio State Winter Invite where he placed third in the 200 Free with a personal best time of 1:37.33.
