PITTSBURGH – Pitt standouts Bub Carrington (Washington Wizards), Blake Hinson (Golden State Warriors), and Zack Austin (Oklahoma City Thunder) look to continue their NBA journeys at the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas July 10-20. In addition to the players, Pitt will also have a pair of coaches on the sidelines in Las Vegas in Chris Jones (Utah Jazz) and Ashton Gibbs (Washington Wizards).
Carrington is expected to only play in a couple of games for the Washington Wizards after posting an impressive rookie season. The 2024 NBA lottery pick went on to earn Second Team All-Rookie honors after averaging 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. He was the only rookie in the NBA to play all 82 games and finished the season with 43 double-figure scoring efforts. Over 34 regular season games, he averaged 20.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, while making a league-best 126 threes to help the Warriors to a playoff berth.
Austin got his first taste of NBA action at the Salt Lake City Summer League (July 5-8) with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in three games in Salt Lake City averaging 3.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals over 13.8 minutes per game. He posted a nine-point, three-steal effort in a win over Philadelphia with a pair of dunks and a 5-of-6 showing from the free throw line. Austin signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Thunder after finished his collegiate career with 1,408 points, 710 rebounds, 230 blocks, and 213 three-pointers in 128 games to join Shane Battier (Duke) and Jake Stephens (VMI, Chattanooga) as the only players in NCAA history to post at least 1,400 points, 700 rebounds, 200 three-point field goals, and 200 blocks in a career.
Jones, a Pitt letterwinner from 2013-17, is an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and video coordinator at his alma mater before serving as a graduate assistant at TCU in 2018-19). He joined the Jazz as a video assistant in 2019 and was moved to player development coach in 2022 before earning his full-time assistant role prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.
Gibbs, Pitt's career three-point field goal leader (297), was announced as an assistant coach in the Washington Wizards / Capital City Go-Go organization, where he will work with fellow former Panthers Carrington and Justin Champagnie, on July 9. He was a part of the Atlanta Hawks organization from 2022-25 working with both the NBA team and their G-League affiliate the College Park Skyhawks.
