GAMEDAY: Football vs. Duquesne
8/28/2025 8:30:00 AM | Football

Pitt begins its 136th season of intercollegiate football Saturday at Acrisure Stadium when it hosts neighboring Duquesne. The matchup marks the first meeting between the programs since 1939 and only the seventh overall. The Panthers lead the series 5-2, though Duquesne won the last contest more than eight decades ago. Pitt has built a strong record in openers, going 89-44-2 all time, including 9-1 under Chris Bickell '97 Head Football Coach Pat Narduzzi.
Narduzzi enters his 11th season on the sideline, making him Pitt’s longest-tenured coach since John Michelosen (1955-65). His 72 victories trail only Jock Sutherland’s 111 for the most in program history.
The Panthers return key pieces, including redshirt sophomore quarterback Eli Holstein, who set a freshman touchdown pass record in 2024, and senior running back Desmond Reid, a consensus All-America all-purpose selection. On defense, redshirt junior linebacker Kyle Louis anchors the unit after becoming the program’s first sophomore defensive player to earn All-America honors since Hugh Green in 1978.
