
Pitt Representatives Wrap Up Competition at World Championships

PITTSBURGH – Four Panthers wrapped up competition at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore this weekend.
Rising senior, Jayla Pina, competed in four events for her home country of Cape Verde this past week. Pina's 1:14.00 in the women's 100m breaststroke was a personal best time for her. Pina also competed in the women's 50m breaststroke and the mixed 400m freestyle and medley relays.
Max Matteazzi swam the 22nd-best time in the men's 200m individual medley with his a 2:00.51. Matteazzi won gold in the event at Sette Colli earlier this month.
Luka Carapovic, an incoming Panthers representing Croatia, finished ninth in his heat of the men's 100m backstroke with a time of 55.84. Carapovic also swam in the 400m medley relay for Croatia. The 3:36.39 was the fastest 400m medley relay he had ever been a part of.
Pitt's sole diver, Mariana Osorio Mendoza, participated in the women's 10m platform competition. Osorio Mendoza finished 32nd in the preliminary round with a 217.45.
Ten other Panthers will now set their sights on the TYR Summer Championships in Irvine, CA this week.
