PITTSBURGH – Softball's Alena Ball, wrestling's Luca Augustine and track and field's Uri Arnon have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their standout performances over the past week.
Ball played a key role in leading Pitt to a 3–2 weekend at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic. She had an outstanding offensive performance, finishing the weekend batting .611 (11-for-18) while also showcasing her speed by going 4-for-5 on stolen base attempts. She was especially pivotal against Auburn, going 4-for-5 at the plate and scoring two runs, consistently getting on base and creating scoring opportunities for the Panthers.
No. 18 Augustine sparked Pitt's late push at 174 pounds with an impressive 7–2 decision over No. 6 Matty Singleton in a tightly contested dual against No. 9 NC State. He took control with an escape, and a violation point to build momentum after a scoreless first period. Singleton forced overtime with an escape and a riding time point, but Augustine remained composed and closed out the victory. The win handed Singleton his first loss since Dec. 12 at Ohio State and marked a signature performance for Augustine, standing out in Pitt's hard-fought 18–13 dual setback to the Wolfpack.
Arnon broke Pitt's triple jump school record with a 15.46-meter mark at the Penn Classic this Friday. Arnon won the event while also setting a Penn Classic meet record. The previous program record of 15.45-meters was set by Larry Kinney in 1980.
