ATLANTA, Ga. - Claire Jansen made program history twice in 100 back on Friday, and the Pitt men added two more school records of their own to cap a record-breaking Day 6 of the ACC Championships at McAuley Aquatic Center.
Jansen then took center stage in the morning prelims, dropping a 50.47 in the 100 backstroke to break the school record she had set at the Texas Invitational earlier this season (51.03). The time earned her an NCAA Invited cut and positioned her as the third seed heading into Friday night's A final. In the final, Jansen touched in 50.32 to break her own school record for the second time in a matter of hours. The senior finished fourth in the A final.
Alan Vergine added a new program record in the 200 fly, breaking his own record with a time of 1:42.03 in the prelims. In the finals, Vergine added an 11th place finish for the Panthers.
The day's third school record came during Friday morning's time trial session, when Julian Koch, Donat Fabian, Evan Witte and Merlin Belmon combined to swim 1:16.73 in the 200-freestyle relay, breaking the previous program mark of 1:17.18 set at the 2025 ACC Championships. The time also earned the group an NCAA B cut.
Sydney Gring also contributed on the women's side, finishing 11th overall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.53. Mary Clarke also added points with a 23rd-place finish in 52.54. In the men's event, Mason Leach earned an 18th place finish with a time of 46.08.
Angelina Messina rounded out the women's evening with a 21st-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:01.66. On the men's side, Eli Hobson finished 13th with a time of 52.40. The Panthers also posted 18 personal-best times across the day's events.
The men closed the session with another school record. The relay of Mason Leach, Eli Hobson, Alan Vergine and Julian Koch combined to swim 3:05.02 in the 400 medley relay, breaking the previous program mark of 3:05.72.
