Crawford, Koch Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH- Track and field's Niya Crawford and swimming's Julian Koch been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week following standout performances last week.
Crawford won two events, the shot put and the discus throw at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational this past weekend. On Friday, Crawford threw a personal best 16.54 meters in the shot put, marking the third best throw in program history. The following day, Crawford once again threw a personal best, this time in the discus throw, launching 48.27 meters, the fourth farthest mark in the event at Pitt.
Koch earned first-team All-American honors in both the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle, setting program records in both events and contributing to the 400 freestyle relay's 10th-place finish, tied for the highest relay finish in program history, as Pitt recorded its highest team finish at the NCAA Championships in 73 years. Koch broke the program record in the 100 butterfly with a 43.85 in prelims, then touched eighth in the championship final in 44.28. In the 100 freestyle, he led all qualifiers with a 40.52 in prelims to break the program record, then broke his own mark a second time with a 40.43 in the championship final for fourth place, finishing the week as a three-time individual All-American.
